Highlights at Royal de Chine include dishes that honor local ingredients and culinary craftsmanship. Reviews reveal a consistent appreciation for their specialty items, especially the duck roast and puttu, which marry texture and taste in a way that indulges the senses. While some found portions rather modest, the depth of flavor compensates, affirming the kitchen’s dedication to quality over quantity.
However, it’s clear that the restaurant excels most when embracing traditional preparations rather than venturing into broader fusion, such as the Chinese-inspired offerings which some diners found less compelling. This focus on authentic, local cuisine aligns well with diners seeking an immersive gastronomic experience rooted in regional heritage.
The service complements the food beautifully—polite, attentive, and efficient—which cultivates a welcoming atmosphere even during busy hours. Moreover, while pricing leans toward the premium end, visitors looking for a sophisticated and memorable meal often find the value justified by the overall experience. The ambience, paired with the restaurant’s storied reputation, elevates dining here beyond mere consumption to an encounter with culinary art.
In essence, Royal de Chine encourages patrons to savor the richness of traditional dishes such as the beef roast and carefully crafted local specialties. “ The food was good and there was a big crowd as it is one of the oldest restaurants in Alappuzha. I tried their puttu and duck roast and it was nice. Felt the quantity was bit on the below average side. The beef roast was also pretty good. The paneer butter masala was very bad and I would suggest you to stick on with nadan items and not go for Chinese items there. The pricing is also on the upper side given the quantity they serve. ”
“ Excellent food and great local experience Hotel Brothers is one of the best places in Alleppey to enjoy authentic Kerala food. The seafood is fresh and well cooked, especially the fish curry and prawns fry. Meals are served hot with good portion sizes and rich flavors. The service is quick and polite, even during busy hours. Prices are very reasonable for the quality and quantity they serve. The place is clean and has a simple, traditional restaurant feel. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Alappuzha and looking for tasty local food without heavy spice or oil. ”
“ Brothers Hotel, Alappuzha is a well-known spot, and our recent lunch visit lived up to its reputation. We had a simple yet satisfying meal—nadan oonu and chicken biryani, both of which were very tasty. The fish fry we ordered was fresh and well-prepared. The biryani was especially good, with perfect portions and great flavour. The service was polite and quick, and the seating area was comfortable and clean. There is ample parking, well-maintained wash areas, and the hotel is conveniently located right in the centre of Alappuzha town, which makes it easy to reach. Overall, it’s a great place for lunch with family or friends. Good food, good service, and value for money. Definitely a place I’d recommend. ”
“ Brothers Restaurant is a fairly old and well-known place that serves genuine local Kerala cuisine. The food is very good with an authentic taste, and the pricing is reasonable—not too expensive. Parking space is limited and can accommodate around 8–10 cars. The restaurant is also not very noticeable from the main road, as there is only a small signboard. It is better to rely on Google Maps for accurate location; otherwise, you may miss the entrance and need to reverse. Overall, a good place for authentic Kerala food. ”
“ A popular restaurant in Alappuzha known for its good food and quality service. The ambience is nice, and it’s a place often visited by celebrities, which adds to its appeal. Prices are quite expensive, so it may not be ideal for regular or budget dining. But for tourists looking to try a premium spot, it’s worth a visit. ”
